Dear yuo,

Good question. When the title of my new book got changed by the Penguin Putnam Sales Dept (the author has no control over the title of the novel), it diminished the fact that the story is set in a Mexican/American town in rural San Diego County. BUT the story did not change (I have complete control over that), so my main characters didn't change either. THE BOY WHO SAVED BASEBALL is actually a "buddy book," in which we have two main characters. One is the home boy, Tom Gallagher. And the focus character is Cruz de la Cruz, the new kid who comes riding into town on horseback to save the day.

Look for sample chapters on this Website in Nov or Dec, 2002.
