Dear Leilani,

I'm happy to answer your questions:

1) Whats up with the rabbit thing in this story?
2) Also why did you choose a rabbit when you could of chosen any other kind of animal?

The rabbit comes from my own life and my days as a hunter when I was a teenager. They are vulnerable, like Luke.

3) Why does Pa always whisper when he talks to Luke of religion or when he is mad?

It's his way of making a strong point.

4) Why did you decide to write a story about religion and baseball?

Because for some people, baseball is a religious experience, and I like the juxtaposition of the two worlds.

5) Why did you even write this book?

To explore and expose the hatred and prejudice in the world that is based on certain people's misguided religious beliefs.

THANKS for asking.

All best wishes,

--JHR
