"Fascism should more properly be called
corporatism, since it is the merger of
state and corporate power." —
Benito Mussolini.

Dear John,

The great writer on the subject of totalitarianism was George Orwell, and "1984" is always worth
rereading. But just the other day to George Bush announced that we must fight a war "for the sake of
peace." That's not just vaguely Orwellian, it's a direct quote.

Thank you, John, for pointing out in a speech last spring that fear is our greatest enemy. As long as
Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/Ridge can keep us in fear, we will let them do whatever they want.

This is the most anti-human, anti-environmental administration in American history. The corporatists in
this administration, particularly those from the oil cartels, apparently have some grand imperialist
schemes to keep us in cheap oil indefinitely.

We give corporate welfare to the oil companies with innumerable tax breaks, loopholes and support
programs. My simple question is this: Why should we ask our military to die for cheap oil when the auto
makers aren't even being asked to get better mileage?

Sacrifice profits for the good of us all? Treat the world with respect? Not if we can scare and bully
everyone to do what we want. Mussolini would've been pleased with the Bush battle plan. Keep on
writing your insightful books. People need to know. Thanks.
