"Hi, I left a message here earlier wondering if you could come and visit my school, if you can remember me. I
was wondering if you have won the award yet? I don't know how long it's going to take to find out, but
I'm real excited, I got a good grade on my report for you book Over the Wall. I'm reading another book
by you, Choosing Up Sides, so far it is really good and I'm almost finished with it. I've expanded my
reading time, and I've now read four books in the last three days, I have just finished a series, The
Chronicles of Narnia, today and I'm almost done with Choosing Up Sides, I can't wait to finish it and
start up another one of your outsatnding books.
Sincerely,
Meckenzie "

Hi Meckenzie!
Sure, I remember you and your kind letter, asking about a school visit to Omaha. As of today, I haven't heard any word on the mysterious Nebraska State Golden Sower Book Award. You might ask your teacher or school librarian as to when the voting takes place or when the announcement is made.
But I will promise you this. Even if I don't get a chance to come to Omaha this year, I'll send you a personalized signed copy of my newest book, The Boy Who Saved Baseball. And the reason I'm doing that is not just because you're a great fan and supporter of my work, but because I see by your letter that reading has made a big difference in your life. I know it's hard to find more reading time these days, with everybody in such a hurry (in fact, THAT'S one of the main themes in my new book!), so I am very impressed with anyone like you who decides to make the time for such an important endeavor.
So congratulations, Meckenzie, on your good work and wise choices. I salute you!
Please have your teacher (or your parents) send me an e-mail to HeyJohn@JohnHRitter.com with the address of your school and your room number or teacher's name, and I'll send a book along as soon as they're published (Pub date is May 12, 2003).
Meanwhile, I send all best wishes. Keep up the great work.
Sincerely,
--John H Ritter
